Ibarreche, Cesar, Putilov and Cholov are among the medallists in Budva

All of the quarter-finals were held at the European U22 Boxing Championships in Budva, Montenegro in the fifth day of boxing.

Boxers who were born in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 are eligible to compete in the current European U22 Boxing Championships. The women’s and the men’s finals of the competition will be held after the rest day on November 19.

Bulgaria’s European Elite Championships silver finisher Ergyunal Sebahtin Sabri had a strong rival at the quarter-finals of the minimumweight (48kg) but he managed to beat Turkey’s Salih Samet Oruc to take his next guaranteed medal.

Montenegro’s Tomislav Djinovic is not an experienced U22 boxer yet but he had the stamina to beat Portugal’s David Realinho Duarte in the quarter-finals. The favourites of the weight class such as Bulgaria’s Radoslav Rosenov, Armenia’s Erik Israyelyan and Russia’s Konstantin Opolskiy all advanced to the semi-finals.

Serbia’s Almir Memic is a strong fighter and he was never stopped attacking in his middleweight (75kg) quarter-final against Albania’s Flavio Meta in Budva. The European Youth Champion William Cholov of Bulgaria also secured his place in the last four after beating Kosovo’s Drilon Thaci.

Azerbaijan’s Nijat Huseynov claimed several medals during his youth competitions and his efforts paid off against Italy’s Fares Al-Assi at the flyweight (51kg). Turkey’s Semih Gumus, Armenia’s Rudolf Garboyan and Serbia’s Omer Ametovic are also medallists in this weight class.

Spain’s Oier Ibarreche is a technician boxer who controlled the exchanges against Croatia’s Marin Jelacic at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Georgia’s Lasha Gagnidze won the most exciting contest of this weight class during the quarter-finals, he eliminated Serbia’s ex-Russian Aleksej Sendrik by 3:2 split decision.

France’s Yojerlin Cesar impressed against North Macedonia’s ex-US hope, Arjan Iseni at the light heavyweight (80kg) and Germany’s super heavyweight (+92kg) hope, Nikita Putilov was also one of the stars of the day.
