The elite finals of the President’s Cup were excellent in Taichung City
Chinese Taipei’s main competition in 2023, the President’s Cup delivered sensational elite finals on their fifth competition day.
More than 700 boxers from both genders registered to participate in Taichung City which was the host of the competition in 2022 as well.
The junior, youth and elite boxers are competing in the National President’s Cup which is the main selection competition in Chinese Taipei this year.
The former President of the Chinese Taipei Boxing Association, Mr. Lee Wu Nan was also there in the venue and the 82-year-old official followed all of the contests.
The Rio Olympian Lai Chu En and Kan Chia Wei have already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and for the very first time in their boxing history, at least two male boxers will represent Chinese Taipei in France’s capital next summer.
The Women’s World Champion Lin Yu Ting and Wu Shih Yi both secured their spots for their second Olympic Games after the last Tokyo edition. Lin Yu Ting could be one of the main favorites at the women’s featherweight (57kg) in Paris next year.
The two-time World Champion Lin Yu Ting competed at the women’s lightweight (60kg) in the President’s Cup and she used the event as preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but as expected, she stopped her final opponent in Taichung City.
Another Asian Games competitor, Lee Cheng Wei used her excellent technical skills to beat a younger rival, Lin Jun Yuan at the men’s featherweight (57kg) therefore he has strong chance to represent Chinese Taipei in the 1st World Olympic Qualifier.
Lin Yan delivered the next top performance in the finals of the President’s Cup where he defeated Lu Cong Wei at the light welterweight (63.5kg) final. Lin Zhe Wei (71kg), Huang Guan Qun (75kg), Huang Guan Teng (80kg) and Yang Yu Song (92kg) all had excellent fighting skills in their finals.
