Taylor avenges loss, becomes two-weight undisputed world champion

Irish superstar Katie Taylor avenged the only loss of her professional boxing career.

Taylor (23-1) on Saturday night, in front of her home crowd in Dublin, Ireland defeated British Chantelle Cameron (18-1), to become undisputed world champion in super-lightweight.

Taylor took the IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO titles from Cameron. She won the fight by majority decision. Judge Ferenc Budai scored the fight as draw, 95:95 and judges Jan Christensen and Steve Morrow scored the fight in favor of Taylor, 98:92 and 96:94.

It was a spectacular fight with non-stop action. Taylor was more accurate, specially in first half of the fight.

In their first encounter, that was also held in Ireland, on May 20, Taylor lost by majority decision. It was her first defeat of career.

She was eager to avenge the loss and she did that. Taylor joined Claressa Shields as only women that won the undisputed title in two weight divisions. Taylor was undisputed champion also in lightweight.

“Two-weight undisputed champion? That sounds very nice! That was the longest six months of my life waiting for this rematch. This is my real homecoming tonight”, Taylor said.

Cameron had to accept the first defeat on her professional boxing career.

Taylor was open for a third fight with Cameron.

“Let’s get the trilogy at Croke Park.”

In the undercard of the show that was promoted by Matchroom, Gary Cully (17-1) defeated by split decision Reece Mould (18-2).

Australian Skye Nicholson (9-0) won the WBC Interim featherweight title, by beating via TKO in round 10, Lucy Wildheart (10-3).
