Benavidez destroys Andrade, wants Canelo next
David Benavidez (28-0) sent his sights on a super-middleweight title fight with undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez after demolishing prior undefeated Demetrius Andrade (32-1).
26-year-old stopped former world champion Andrade in six rounds in Las Vegas on Saturday night to win WBC Interim super-middleweight title.
“I solidified myself as the dominant performer I am. Just give me the fight that we all wanna see,” Benavidez said. “Who wants to see me versus Canelo? I’m gonna be the super-middleweight champion of the world, three-time world champion.”
Former middleweight and super-welterweight campion Andrade, 35, had never lost before in career.
But, on his second appearance at super-middleweight, he was outclassed by Benavidez. Benavidez knocked Andrade down once in fourth round. And towards end of sixth round, Andrade’s corner threw the towel.
