Gill upsets Conlan
Jordan Gill (28-2-1) scored an upset victory on Saturday night in Belfast over local favorite Michael Conlan (18-3).
Gill stopped Conlan in seventh round. He dropped Conlan once in second round, before stopping him in seventh. Gill was ahead on points after six rounds.
Gill told “DAZN” that he thought of killing himself in aftermath of his loss against Kiko Martinez. Gill lost his EBU featherweight title.
“After the Martínez loss, I lost touch with myself. I broke up with my wife. On 30 June I was in a field … and I was going to kill myself. Somebody came and saved me that day.”
Despite being underdog in fight against Conlan, Gill got the win.
“Tonight just wasn’t my night,” Conlan wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “I’m going to take some time out and be with my family. Congratulations to Jordan Gill who was victorious tonight. Belfast, as always thank you from the bottom of my heart for turning out in your numbers again.”
