Fernandez and Tudsbury were brilliant on Day3
Spain’s Jennifer Fernandez and England’s Conner Tudsbury eliminated aces on the third competition day at the Boxam Elite Tournament in La Nucia during the quarter-finals.
Spain’s Jennifer Fernandez is in fantastic shape, she defeated France’s European Games winner Amina Zidani last November and she amazed once again with her smart boxing in La Nucia. The 28-year-old Spaniard won a fantastic tactical match against Kazakhstan’s World Championships silver medallist Karina Ibragimova at the featherweight (57kg) on Day3.
Italy’s Federico Serra is a fantastic boxer who earned several medals during his long career and he has the full focus on the 1st World Qualifier. The Italian competes at the men’s bantamweight (54kg) in this event and he had the full dominance against Spain’s Erik Gomez whose ringside abandoned the unequal bout in the third round.
Scotland’s Aaron Cullen is only 19 but he has experiences from several international events and he returned to Spain as the titleholder of the Rodriguez Cal Memorial. The Scotsman overcame in the attacks his ex-Kazakh opponent, Azat Makhmetov of Bahrain and he produced his best performance in the third round to beat his rival.
Hungary’s Roland Veres, the European Championships bronze medallist returned to his original category, to the lightweight (60kg) in this event. The 24-year-old Hungarian had a strong tactical success over Thailand’s U22 boxer, Phuthanet Rodsuk and he will meet for the title contest, Mali’s Abdoul Karim Bathily.
England’s new weapon at the light welterweight (63.5kg), Cameron McKay was outstanding in his first appearance at the Boxam Tournament but he has proved his real potential in the quarter-finals today.
England’s Conner Tudsbury, the Youth Olympic Games winner, returned after two years of break and he performed superbly on his comeback. His opponent was a favourite at the light heavyweight, Spain’s World bronze medallist Gazimagomed Jalidov but Tudsbury had the skills to win this top fight.
