Zhang upsets Romanov, gets the chance to fight for WBA super-cruiserweight title
China’s Zhaoxin Zhang (12-2-1) secured a big victory on Saturday night in Ekaterinburg, Russia over local favorite Evgeny Romanov (19-1) thus earning a chance to fight for WBA World super-cruiserweight title.
Zhang was knocked-down on first round but was lucky to survive the round. In the second round Romanov continued to make pressure to get the KO victory, but was surprised by left hook of Zhang and then a big right. Romanov went up at nine, but wasn’t stable and referee stopped the fight at 2:24 minutes in second round.
Zhang will have now a change to fight Olympic gold medalist of 2016, Evgeny Tishchenko (13-1), which holds WBA super-cruiserweight title.
