Berinchyk vs Navarette for WBO lightweight title
Emanuel Navarrete (38-1-1) and Denys Berinchyk (18-0) are edging closer to finalize a deal for vacant WBO World lightweight title. Negotiations are still ongoing, avoiding an eventual purse bid. Navarrete, a three-division world champion, seeks title in fourth division after being elevate to “Super Champion” status. Represented by Top Rank, he eyes a potential showdown with Berinchyk, promoted by Alex Krassyuk.
There are rumors of the bout happening in May in San Diego, a venue where Navarrete has previously already fought. Navarrete (38-1-1, 31KOs) secured his third divisional belt by defeating Liam Wilson, then he defended successfully against Oscar Valdez and Robson Conceicao. His “Super Champion” designation grants him an immediate title shot in new weight class. Berinchyk (18-0, 9KOs), an ex-Olympic Silver medalist, aims for his first major title fight after notable wins in his pro career. Navarrete boasts an 11-0-1 record in title fights, while for Berinchyk it will be his first attempt to a world title in nearly nine years as a pro.
