Altogether 212 boxers from 33 nations will compete at the All Africa Games

The boxing tournament of the All Africa Games will start with its preliminaries tomorrow and the competition will be the highlight of the upcoming 10 days.

The sport entries check confirmed the participation of 64 female and 148 male boxers from 33 various countries in Accra, Ghana.

Several of the Africans who competed in the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio, will be also there on the start of the All Africa Games in Ghana’s capital.

The All Africa Games was planning to host on August 2023 but due to economic reasons, the multisport event moved to March 2024.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo sent 22 boxers to the All Africa Games, their delegation is the biggest in the competition. DR Congo impressed in the recent editions of the AFBC African Boxing Championships and their team is ready to earn gold medals in the forthcoming Games.

Algeria will compete with 19 boxers and several of them are high hopes in the Games including Roumaysa Boualam, Hadjila Khelif, Ichrak Chaib, Jugurtha Ait Bekka, Mohamed Houmri and Mourad Kadi.

The host team, Ghana will represent the boxing event with 16 boxers including the Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medallist Samuel Takyi at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg).

Tunisia is one of the boxing powers in Africa and the country sent 14 female and male boxers in Accra despite some injuries which affected the team.

Nigeria has three qualified boxers for the Paris 2024 Olympics and the country will participate with 11-strong squad in Accra.

Egypt missed the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Italy but 10 of their best boxers will compete in Accra from tomorrow.

Morocco, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Seychelles, South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania all have strong potentials in this All Africa Games.

The Technical Meeting and the Official Draw will take place in the Bukom Boxing Arena later today from 19:00 local time.
