Ukraine, England and Ireland were the best nations at the European Youth Boxing Championships
Ukraine, England and Ireland were the best nations at the European Youth Boxing Championships in Porec, Croatia after the final bouts finished in the event.
Ukraine claimed eight gold medals in the European Youth Boxing Championships and topped the medal standings in Porec. Anastasia Taran was the main favourite at the women’s light middleweight (70kg) and she had the strong performance in the final against Italy’s Miriam Di Savino. The Ukrainian boys impressed in the day of the finals, their boxers won six out of the thirteen male title contests in the championships.
England bagged four titles in the championship, and among them John Carrigan (71kg) and Leo Fonawah Atang (92kg) had surprise successes. Ruby White stopped her French final opponent and she earned her next European title, but the first among the youth boxers. Their next strong female boxer, Alice Pumphrey also stopped her final opponent, Turkey’s Emine Kilinc, and she needed less than two minutes to win the European title.
Ireland’s Ava Rose Henry Lyndon controlled her final against Ukraine’s Yulia Stupakova and she remained on the top of Europe. Her teammate, Kayla Doyle Byrne (66kg) and their male super heavyweight (+92kg) boxer, Adam Olaniyan both succeeded in the day of the finals.
Ginevra Muzzi had hard job against Ukraine’s Viktoriya Zakharchuk at the women’s lightweight (60kg) but she won their final meeting before her compatriot, Christian Sarsilli won his men’s light heavyweight (80kg) title bout.
Azerbaijan achieved also two titles in Porec where Bilalkhabasi Nazarov (48kg) and Omar Aslanli (54kg) both defeated their Ukrainian final opponents.
Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey, Greece, France and Poland all achieved one titles in the European Youth Boxing Championships.
Armenia claimed five medals without a title, while Croatia, Latvia, Moldova, Hungary and Albania had finalists in the competition. Serbia, Lithuania, Spain, Cyprus, Czech Republic and Israel bagged at least one bronze medal in Porec.
