Legendary boxing matches – Legendary boxers: The shortest world title reign in the history
Author: Zizi
There are matches, which are never to be forgotten, and there are boxing icons, who are going to stay with us for eternity.
I think we can agree that the ultimate goal for a professional boxer is to possess the world title. Only a few of them could reach that target and only a couple of them could defend it for years.
We always talk about fighters who were continuously successful, so the time has come to mention the boxer, who had the shortest world title reign in the history of boxing. Waldemar Holberg won the world welterweight title against Ray Bronson in 1913.
Holberg could not be happy about his belt for long because he decided to defend it against Tom McCormick just 23 days later in the same venue. The new champ chose to fight dirty, so he was disqualified and lost his title. Fun fact: Holdberg was a nasty boxer, he was disqualified eight times during his career.
