Kazakhstan’s Karap, Molzhigitov and Mukatayev all succeeded in Astana

The first part of the U22 quarter-finals were featured in the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Kazakhstan’s Yernar Karap had a tough start in the ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships but he was more focused on his second appearance in Astana against Bhutan’s Migma Dorji. The Kazakh minimumweight (48kg) boxer was stronger than his opponent from Bhutan who won a great contest during the preliminaries but Karap’s routine decided the bout.

Nepal’s Upreti Lal Prasad surprised Mongolia’s Tuvshinzaya Otgonbayar in the first round of their minimumweight (48kg) quarter-final and he had the advantage on four out of the five scorecards. Prasad received a warning in the middle of the second round which was a turning point on their contest and the Mongolian bagged the guaranteed medal in Astana.

Turkmenistan’s Jeyhun Tagaymuradov had brilliant footwork in the first round and he had a powerful shot as well against Uzbekistan’s Asian Youth Champion Shavkatjon Boltayev. The 19-year-old Uzbek had a higher tempo from the second round and his powerful combinations guaranteed an early success for Boltayev.

Kazakhstan’s Youth World bronze medallist Dias Molzhigitov eliminated Jordan’s Youth National Champion Zaid Alden Iashash in the quarter-final of the middleweight (75kg) by unanimous decision but he can expect a hard contest as next. Kyrgyzstan’s Daniel Abdurakhmanov has five years of international routine and these paid off against Turkmenistan’s Begench Akmyradov therefore he will meet Molzhigitov as next.

Kazakhstan’s National Champion Temirlan Mukatayev is aiming for his third Asian titles in Astana and he subdued Kyrgyzstan’s Bekbol Murasbekov on this road at the cruiserweight (86kg). India’s Jugnoo eliminated Turkmenistan’s Rahat Mollamyradov and he also joined the semi-finals in this weight class.
