Strong Italians in the opener of the Junior Nations Cup

The Junior Nations Cup opened in Vrbas short after the European Elite Boxing Championships which was hosted by the Serbia too.

The Junior Nations Cup was launched in 2017 and it is a relatively new international competition in the European boxing map.  

The competition are holding for both genders, and the junior girls and boys are able to compete from the pinweight (46kg) up to the heavyweight (+80kg) in Vrbas.

The Tournament Director of the upcoming 6th Junior Nations Cup is Serbia’s ITO, Mr. Jovan Panic. The event is a preparation for the EUBC Junior European Boxing Championships which will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina on June.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Kazakhstan, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Panama are the participating nations in the international event.

Altogether 26 female and 73 male boxers are participating in the Junior Nations Cup in Vrbas, Serbia and aiming for the gold medals.

Croatia has a strong junior female team and their Ana Jukicic proved her very best in her opener against Serbia’s Lejla Sejdi. The Croatian featherweight (57kg) talent was too strong for the local girl and the referee stopped their bout in the first round.

Kazakhstan’s Bekarys Adilbay had amazing performance against Greece’s Nearchos Petros Konstantinoudis, a European Champion boxer and the Central Asian managed to win the bout of the day at the men’s flyweight (50kg).

Bulgaria’s Yanko Iliev is one of their best prospects in the junior age group who had a tight success over Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Nurbek, while another bantamweight (54kg) hopeful, Serbia’s Luka Katic defeated Ali Mereke of Kazakhstan in a hectic bout.

Daniele Fabi (50kg), Matteo De Micco (60kg), Giuseppe Cavallo (63kg), and Mirko Varamo (63kg) achieved four successes for the Italian junior team in Vrbas and all of them proved that they have medal chances in the upcoming European Junior Championships as well.
