Li Qian and Lovlina Borgohain won the tightest contests at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem
The 54th edition of the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem is a World Boxing Challenge in the Czech Republic which opened with its first sessions.
Several of the Olympian boxers uses the event as last preparations before the start of the Paris Olympics and the quality in the women’s part of the prestigious Grand Prix is very high.
China’s Asian Games winner Wu Yu had only one loss this year, she suffered that loss still in the beginning of her preparations at the Strandja Memorial Tournament. The experienced Chinese was too smart for Czech Republic’s U22 boxer, Claudia Totova and her brilliant technical skills guaranteed her unanimous points victory.
Germany’s Maxi Kloetzer recovered from her injuries and she surprisingly qualified for the Paris Olympics through the Busto Arsizio event. The German light flyweight (50kg) boxer had a very hectic battle against England’s European silver medallist Demi-Jade Resztan but her final minutes were decisive.
China’s Li Qian lost only a few contests in the recent six years and she claimed World titles, Asian gold medals, and a silver at the Tokyo Olympics. The tall Chinese tried to keep the safest distance against Boxing Refugee Team’s strong puncher Cindy Ngamba and she had to do her very best to beat the tough rival by 3:2 split decision.
The next women’s middleweight (75kg) contest was also a close contest and the decision was the same 3:2. India’s World Champion and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain did not underestimate England’s returning Chantelle Reid but she needed the extra performance in the last round to win this contest.
China’s best male boxer, the Asian Games winner Tuohetaerbieke Tanglatihan spent the recent six years in the elite national team and his technical skills overmatched Germany’s Vezir Agirman’s boxing knowledge in their light heavyweight (80kg) meeting.
