Four Szekler Boxers Prepare for the World Championships
An important milestone in the life of the Transylvanian Godako Boxing Sports Club was the recently concluded XVI. International Ostrom Cup. In Kőszeg, two young athletes from Gyergyó earned their participation in the World Championship.
Péter Benedek and András Mailát will also be at the U18 World Championships.
Benedek, in the 57 kg weight class, first defeated Ádám Deák, then Levente Lendvai, the former by scoring, and the latter with decisive superiority in the second round. For András Mailát (63.5 kg), one match decided it, as his first opponent withdrew and did not face him. He then defeated György Tóth with a unanimous decision.
The tournament was similarly successful for Róbert Csiki, who competed in the adult category. First, he defeated Iván Nagy, who belongs to a slightly heavier weight class, then convincingly outboxed Levente Oláh, the former junior European champion and 7 times National Champion.
Róbert Búzás (60 kg) also excelled in Kőszeg, defeating Patrik Góman. However, he won the gold medal without a final match, as his Slovakian rival withdrew. It had already been decided that Búzás would soon step into the ring in Bahrain, where he will represent Hungary at the junior Olympic tournament.
In addition to those mentioned, first-year junior Vanessza Tallósi also stepped into the ring at the Ostrom Cup. As there were no opponents in her age and weight class, she fought exhibition matches, including against adult competitor Viktória Matesz.
Zalán Szabó also fought exhibition matches on Friday, facing a boy two weight classes higher. Kevin Srof also competed two weight classes above his own. Brigitta Bakos also stepped into the ring for a training match.
Árpád Huszár is very satisfied with the performance of all athletes from the Transylvanian Godako Boxing Sports Club-Felcsút SK. He also highlights the importance of coach Dávid Huszár’s work, which has played a significant role in achieving these successes.
