Nishiyama, Liu and Richards proved their strong potentials in Ulaanbaatar where Rehemandu delivered the first KO
China’s Liu Chuang, Japan’s Shion Nishiyama and his teammate, Rinka Kinoshita, all won their second contests at the World Boxing Cup Ulaanbaatar 2024 on Day2.
The men’s flyweight (51kg) is a super strong category in the Ulaanbaatar Boxing Cup and China’s new 22-year-old national team member, Liu Chuang won his second contest within two competition days. Firstly, he eliminated Mongolia’s Davaadorj Lkhagvadorj, secondly the Chinese talent eliminated Mongolia’s veteran Olympian boxer, Gan-Erdene Gankhuyag.
Wales’ Scott Richards, another talent from that age group as the Chinese, eliminated his South Korean opponent, Yoon Tae Geun at the flyweight (51kg) in Ulaanbaatar where Philippines’ Asian U22 Champion Aaron Jude Bado and Mongolia’s Battulga Aldarkhishig also advanced to the semi-finals.
Mongolia dominated the quarter-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg), their Dorjnyambuu Ganbold, Enkhsaikhan Oyun-Erdene, Bilgunsaikhan Kharkhuu and Lundaa Gantumur all joined the last four. Gantumur eliminated his Asian Champion and former Olympian teammate, Enkh-Amar Kharkhuu in their exciting repeat match.
Japan’s Shion Nishiyama eliminated a strong puncher, Philippines’ Mark Ashley Fajardo in the first competition day and he continued his winning path against Mongolia’s Munkhbaatar Tsagaanbaatar at the light welterweight (63.5kg).
China’s Halimulati Rehemandu from the Xinjiang region, controlled the first round against Australia’s new national member, Jericho Dale but he increased the tempo and knocked out his Aussie opponent in the quarter-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg).
Japan’s Rinka Kinoshita, the 24-year-old Asian Champion, won two out of the three rounds against Italy’s Lucia Ayari and she followed Mongolia’s World medallist Altantsetseg Lutsaikhan
South Korea’s Choi Hong Eun had a difficult first round against England’s promising Dione Burman, but her strong combinations decided their welterweight (66kg) meeting in the second round.
