Humbatov and Yanfu were the bests in the seventh session in Budva

Azerbaijan’s Zidan Humbatov and DR Congo’s Espoir Yanfu were excellent in the seventh session at the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva today.

Tajikistan’s CIS Youth Games winner Meroj Sufijonov moved up to the flyweight (51kg) this year but the 18-year-old boxer has the height and physical conditions to control his fights. The Tajik found the best attacking angles against Venezuela’s Wilmer Solorzano and he managed his pathway to the last 16 in Budva.

Azerbaijan’s Zidan Humbatov joined this age group this January and he reached the quarter-finals at the annual European Youth Boxing Championships. He began the first round well against Greece’s Alexandros Mavrommatis with a standing count as well and the image of the contest continued in the second as well when the referee stopped it.

Israel’s Maik Eliyahu Tayber is a newcomer in the youth national team but he had a powerful punch in the first round against Ghana’s fast Mathias Ashitey in the next flyweight (51kg) contest. Tayber was dangerous with uppercuts but Ghana’s new pride felt the tempo better in the last minute which decided their close bout.

Tunisia’s technician Fathi Boussa was 10cm taller than his opponent from Turkmenistan, Shanur Artykbayev and his longer reach was the difference between them today. Kyrgyzstan’s Youth Nationals silver medallist Momunaly Ybyraimankunov made a great finish in the third round to beat Turkey’s Tevfik Akkas in the next flyweight (51kg) bout.

Colombia’s best youth boxer, the AMBC Champion Denzel Bermudez used his brilliant defensive style and effective counter-attacks in the first round against DR Congo’s Espoir Yanfu but the African turned back their welterweight (67kg) bout with enthusiasm. Another Colombian, Justin Munevar eliminated Puerto Rico’s Yadriel Perez in the preliminary of the flyweight (51kg) during the first session of the day.
