Catterall beats Prograis, moves closer to a world title fight
Jack Catterall (30-1) made a significant step towards a world title fight, after defeating on Saturday night in Manchester former world champion Regis Prograis (29-3) via unanimous decision.
Fight was for WBO International in super-lightweight. Prograis dropped Catterall once in round five. But British star was dominant and also dropped Prograis twice in round nine, so he secured a unanimous decision victory. All judges scored fight in favor of Catterall (116:109, 117:109 and 116:109). Fight was for WBO International title.
Promoter Eddie Hearn said he would love to bring WBO world champion Teofimo Lopez to Manchster so he can face Catterrall.
“We have Liam Paro fighting Richardson Hitchins, December 7 in Puerto Rico. The winner of that fight, we want to put that straight forward to them to fight Jack Catterall next,” said Hearn.
The chairman of Matchroom Sport added with his usual enthusiasm: “He should be number one with the WBO. I would love to bring Teofimo Lopez to Manchester and give him a good ar*e kicking!”
