The Ukrainians made a strong impact at the Balkan Boxing Championships the city of Loznica, Serbia where the event will turn into its final stage soon.
Albania, Austria, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine are the participating 13 countries in the Balkan Boxing Championships.
Serbia’s Dragana Jovanovic is a 19-year-old talent who won several medals in the previous European Championships and she had the technical skills to beat Greece’s Kyriaki Daponte at the elite flyweight (52kg).
Ukraine’s Veronika Korets had a tough contest against Serbia’s Sanja Markovic at the women’s lightweight (60kg) but finally her hand was raised before their new sensation in the female national team, Natalia Merinova defeated Valeria Andreeva at the women’s welterweight (66kg).
Greece’s World Championships quarter-finalist Olga Pavlina Papadatou moved back to the light welterweight (63kg) and she had the routine to beat Ukraine’s Tetiana Ivanova with strong performance on Day3.
Ukraine’s Ruslan Bednychenko had a great start against Bulgaria’s Daniel Tsvetkov at the men’s youth minimumweight (48kg) and due to his strong second round, the referee stopped the bout in Loznica.
Ukraine’s European Youth Champion Mykyta Zakharchenko (75kg), Maksym Shulha (57kg), Artur Kuzmenko (63.5kg) and Vladyslav Chyniuk (67kg) all won their youth contests by RSC in the first round over their North Macedonian, Serbian and Bosnian & Herzegovian rivals.
Ukraine’s former European Youth Champion Bozorboy Matyakubov impressed against Greece’s Panagiotis Papanikolaou but Albania’s historic World bronze medallist Alban Beqiri also impressed at the men’s light middleweight (71kg).
Croatia’s Petar Kresimir Knezevic caused the main sensation of the day when he eliminated Bulgaria’s European Elite Champion and Paris Olympian Rami Kiwan at the men’s elite middleweight (75kg).
