Japan had a wonderful semi-final day at the World Boxing Cup Finals
The semi-finals delivered impressive battles between the Paris Olympians at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Sheffield, England on Day3.
Thailand’s Lalita Chainarong eliminated her English rival on Day1 but she was not able to beat China’s newcomer in the national team, Xiong Guanxia therefore she will now meet Japan’s Asian Youth Champion Hikaru Shinohara for the title of the women’s 50kg.
Chinese Taipei’s World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen also managed the way to the final against Brazil’s Tatiana Chagas while England’s Vivien Parsons and Brazil’s Jucielen Romeu marched to the title bout of the 57kg.
Netherlands’ Youth World Champion Maud Van der Toorn moved up back to the lightweight (60kg) but South Korea’s multiple Asian Champion Oh Yeon Ji found the best weapon against her which means that she will be boxing against Brazil’s Rebeca De Lima Santos in the final day.
England’s Ellis Trowbridge had a tough battle against Japan’s Soushi Makino at the flyweight (51kg) but he will be a finalist in Sheffield where his teammate, Odel Kamara eliminated Panama’s Eduardo Beckford at the 71kg.
Brazil’s American Champion Luiz Gabriel Oliveira won all of the three rounds against China’s Chen Xinlin in the semi-finals of the men’s 57kg weight class and he will meet for the gold medal another Paris Olympian, Shudai Harada of Japan.
Japan’s Shion Nishiyama was near to qualify for the Paris Olympics but he did not give up his dreams and he impressed after the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup at the World Boxing Cup Finals beating Thailand’s Sakda Ruamtham.
Japan’s World Champion and two-time Olympian Sewon Okazawa had to do his very best to land enough body punches to beat Germany’s Magomed Schachidov in one of the best contests of the third day.
Japan’s Go Wakaya caused the main sensation of the third competition day when he eliminated Brazil’s World silver medallist and Paris Olympian Wanderley Pereira at the light heavyweight (80kg) to meet England’s Dimeji Shittu in the final.
