Zayas says he accepted the offer to fight Ortiz
Xander Zayas (20-0, 12 KOs) says that he accepted an offer to fight Vergil Ortiz Jr. (22-0, 21 KOs) in Saudi Arabia on February 22.
Zayas wrote in social media that he agreed the fight in “one minute”.
“They gave me an hour to say yes. I said yes in one minute,” Zayas wrote on X in reply to Ortiz declaring he would fight anybody. He tagged Ortiz, Top Rank, Golden Boy and Saudi paymaster Turki Alalshikh.
Ortiz was supposed to fight IBF welterweight for champion Jaron Ennis, but Ennis was unsure of moving up on super-welterweight division and risk of losing his belt.
Ortiz won the WBC Interim World superwelterweight title, defeating Ukrainian Srhii Bohachuk via majority decision.
