Knockouts in the quarter-finals of the ASBC Asian Boxing Championships
Knockouts delighted the crowd at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in the city of Chiang Mai, North Thailand on Day6.
Mongolia’s Lundaa Gantumur eliminated his first rival in Chiang Mai in the preliminary stage and he used his own strategy against Ukraine’s 19-year-old Ivan Zavadskyi in the opening bout of the sixth competition day. The Mongolian was smaller than the Ukrainian but he worked from longer range and he felt the tempo well enough to win his key quarter-final which means Lundaa achieved his second Asian medal after the 2022 Amman edition.
Uzbekistan’s World Champion and former Asian Games winner Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov returned to the national team after three years of break and he won his second contest in Chiang Mai, eliminating Tajikistan’s Khusravkhon Rakhimov.
Philippines’ Southeast Asian Games winner Ian Clark Bautista reduced the fighting distance successfully against Turkmenistan’s Dovlet Muhanov and he became the fourth medallist at the men’s featherweight (57kg).
Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullayev, the Paris Olympian, was not only dominant against Afghanistan’s Ahmad Sami Dawrahi but he knocked out his opponent in the first round and marched to the semi-finals of the light heavyweight (80kg) easily.
Kyrgyzstan’s Sagyn Satybaldy Uulu had a brave attempt to beat Kazakhstan’s Asian U22 Champion Yerassyl Zhakpekov in the next quarter-final but his rival was able to turn back this fight.
Ukraine’s World Championships competitor Svitlana Umanska and Sri Lanka’s Hanwellage Sanduni Priyadarshani had a good fight in the first round which was controlled by the first. The Ukrainian flyweight (52kg) boxer kept the control until the last seconds and she claimed a guaranteed medal in Chiang Mai.
Saudi Arabia and Cambodia also claimed medals in the second day of the quarter-finals which are their first ever podium places.
