Bassett, Huseynova, New, Reale, Kollarova and Vogels delighted the female finals at the European U17 Boxing Championships
Lily Bassett, Gular Huseynova, Anya New, Kesia Reale, Karolina Kollarova, and Zoe Vogels delighted the female finals at the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany today.
England’s Lily Bassett did not underestimate Ukraine’s Oleksandra Cherevata in the final of the 46kg and she reduced the fighting distance successfully and she finished the job in the second round with a stoppage.
Azerbaijan’s Gular Huseynova won the CIS Junior Games this October and he won another big event, after beating Turkey’s Asmin Cabas at the 48kg.
England’s Anya New had a an excellent semi-final victory over Ireland’s Lucie Prentice and she used the best strategy against Germany’s first finalist Amalia Mueller at the 50kg.
Italy’s Kesia Reale was not enough shape against Ukraine’s Yevanhelina Petruk in the first round but she was better in the second, and with a great finish, she was able to turn back their gold medal contest.
Siobhan Haley had the height advantage in the 57kg final against Hungary’s Zsofia Kiss therefore she earned England’s next title.
Slovakia arrived to Kienbaum with a strong female team and their experienced Karolina Kollarova delivered her next sensational performance at the 60kg final. The 16-year-old boxer controlled all of the three rounds against Italy’s Rachele Perna using her longer reach effectively.
Two of the top favourites joined the final of the 63kg in Kienbaum where Netherlands’ Zoe Vogels was able to beat England’s Rihanna Holden while Ireland’s Cassie Henderson earned the gold of the 70kg.
Ukraine’s tall Kateryna Moroz received a warning during her 66kg final but she worked well enough to beat Italy’s Gaia Caldarella. Her teammate at the 75kg, Vasylyna Olasiuk won all of the three rounds and the gold medal against Romania’s Andreea-Timeea Tapu.
Ukraine’s next female sensation, Sofia Opaliukh attacked from the first seconds against Hungary’s Krisztina Bodnar and after the standing counts their +80kg final finished in the end of the opening round.
