Kazakhstan and India dominated the semi-finals in La Nucia

Kazakhstan and India dominated the semi-finals of the Boxam Elite Tournament in La Nucia, Alicante region, Spain on Day4.

India’s Manju Rani is one of the stars in their women’s national team and she was well-focused in the first round against Ukraine’s Solomiia Lyniv. Her younger opponent was competitive and showed her technical skills but Rani had the routine to win their semi-final.

India’s Preeti, the Paris Olympian, ruled the middle of the ring against France’s Aya Hamdi and she landed the perfect shots to take the lead on the scorecards. The 23-year-old boxer eliminated the French and she will now meet her teammate, Poonam for the gold of the 54kg.

Thailand’s Asian Champion Punrawee Ruenros eliminated Canada’s Marie Al Ahmadieh and she will now face Netherlands’ Gabriella Weerheim for the title of the women’s 57kg.

India’s Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain had a returning opponent in the semi-finals of the 75kg, Wales’ Commonwealth Games winner Rosie Eccles but she had the skills to win this contest by unanimous decision.  

Kazakhstan’s two-time World Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay amazed in his semi-final bout once again when he eliminated Spain’s Carlos Diaz. The speedy Kazakh will be boxing for the gold medal of the men’s 50kg weight class with another Spanish hope, Ismael Maghraoui.

Kazakhstan’s two-time World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan delivered also a superb performance on Day4 in La Nucia where he bowed out India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam and his final opponent will be a promising English boy, Ellis Trowbridge.

His younger brother, the World Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan performed better and better in the competition days in La Nucia and he was untouchable for India’s Hitesh in the semi-finals of the 70kg.  

Kazakhstan’s twin brothers, Nurbek and Aibek Oralbay are also both World Champions and they use the Boxam Tournament as the start of the year. Nurbek had a harder job today while Aibek dominated his semi-final over Ukraine’s Andrii Khaletksyi.
