The Nordic Boxing Championships starts today

One of the European regional competitions, the Nordic Boxing Championships starts in Vantaa, Finland today where 26 champions will be crowned at the weekend.

The three-days long Nordic Boxing Championships will take place for the elite and U19 youth boxers and for both genders in Finland.

Denmark, host Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are the participating countries in the Nordic Boxing Championships.

The first edition of the Nordic Boxing Championships featured in 1955 when the new regional competition was introduced in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Finland’s No.1, the Paris Olympics quarter-finalist Pihla Kaivo-Oja was planning to compete in this regional event, but she has not any opponent this time.

Finland’s Laura Myllymaeki, the European bronze medallist Emma Jokiaho and the professional boxer, Serwa Palani all could be gold medal contenders.

Denmark’s female team is a promising one, Alice Bennedbaek (57kg) and Caroline Lauenborg (65kg) and the experienced Ditte Frostholm (70kg) are all favourites in the city of Vantaa.

Norway’s Golden Girl, Madeleine Angelsen joined the international stage more than 10 years ago and she has high hopes in the upcoming Nordic Championships as well.

Finland’s Ismail Umar has the routine from the Olympic qualification events and he is one of their highest male hopes in Vantaa.

Strong boxers, such as Denmark’s Kouc Mayoum, Norway’s returning Martin Skogheim and Sweden’s technician Kevin Scott are the favourites at the men’s 70kg.

Sweden’s European U23 bronze medallist Elwin Belezika (90kg) is also a boxer who need to be watched in Vantaa.

Iceland joined the level of the Nordic Boxing Championships in the Stockholm 2012 edition and the country hosted the event for the first time in 2022.
