Myllymaeki, Umar, Manason, Bennedbaek, Lauenborg, Scott, and Belezika all earned gold medals at the Nordic Boxing Championships

The three-days long Nordic Boxing Championships saw excellent final bouts in Vantaa, Finland where the elite and the U19 youth boxers competed for the 26 titles.

Iceland’s historic U19 male gold medal was achieved by Ronald Bjarki Manason who defeated Finland’s Vaino Nore at the 50kg weight class.

Finland’s best female boxers in the event, such as Laura Myllymaeki (48kg), Emma Jokiaho (54kg) and Veera Tuomikoski (80kg) all won gold medals. Myllymaeki is in top shape this year and she was smarter in the exchanges than Norway’s Francine Ahadi Lukungu.

Denmark’s Golden Girl Champion Alice Bennedbaek was stronger than Finland’s Anna Tyni and she won the elite 57kg weight class in Vantaa. Another Danish Golden Girl winner, Caroline Lauenborg outpointed Madeleine Angelsen at the women’s 65kg final.

Sweden’s Berevan Hassan impressed in her final bout against Finland’s professional boxer, Serwa Palani and she bagged the title at the 60kg. Denmark’s veteran Ditte Frostholm was slightly better in the exchanges than Finland’s Mari Sillansuo at the 70kg final.

Sweden’s Joshua Muyinda is one of the aces in their male team and he stopped a local boxer, Konsta Kolmonen in the third round at the 55kg. Finland’s best male boxer, Ismail Umar used his longer reach effectively to beat Sweden’s Patrick Wreder at the 65kg.

Sweden’s No.1, Kevin Scott and Norway’s returning Martin Skogheim arranged one of the best contests of the finals. The 23-year-old Swedish worked hard until the last seconds in this 70kg final bout to take the Nordic title in Vantaa.

Sweden’s next elite male gold medal was taken by Divine Ejesum at the 80kg after beating Denmark’s Ibrahim Aboud. Sweden’s European U23 bronze medallist Elwin Belezika was too strong for Norway’s Jehad Ibrahim Salem Obaid at the 90kg.
