The women boxers from Chinese Taipei and DPR Korea were outstanding in Ulaanbaatar today
The women boxers from Chinese Taipei and DPR Korea were outstanding on the fifth competition day at the Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Mongolia’s capital city, in Ulaanbaatar.
India’s two-time World Champion Nikhat Zareen became the first guaranteed medallist at the Asian Boxing Championships following her dominance over Philippines’ Xian Baguhin which finished with a stoppage in the first round.
Chinese Taipei’s Guo Yi Hsuan won the closest battle at the women’s 51kg weight category but the 21-year-old talent had the speed and the energetic punches from closer distance to beat South Korea’s veteran Bak Cho Rong.
Chinese Taipei’s second success in the first part of the quarter-finals was achieved by the Paris Olympic Games winner Lin Yu Ting who used her longer hands well against Japan’s Ayaka Taguchi at the 60kg.
DPR Korea sent a smaller team to Ulaanbaatar but their An Kum Byol defeated Mongolia’s Balsan Mungunsaran with impressive performance at the women’s 51kg. Her teammate, the Paris Olympian Won Un Gyong had a tactical success over South Korea’s multiple Asian Champion Oh Yeon Ji at the 60kg.
China’s Olympic Games winner Wu Yu had to do her very best to beat Uzbekistan’s Gulsevar Ganiyeva at the 51kg but her teammate, the World Champion Yang Chengyu lost to India’s Priya by split decision at the 60kg.
Kazakhstan’s reigning World Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan, China’s Wang Peicheng, Jordan’s Zeyad Eshaish and Japan’s former World Champion Sewon Okazawa marched to the semi-finals at the men’s 70kg.
Chinese Taipei’s two-time World Champion Huang Hsiao Wen arrived to Ulaanbaatar in top shape and she had the outstanding technician performance to beat the defending champion of the women’s 54kg, Natnicha Chongprongklang of Thailand.
South Korea’s Im Ae Ji defeated Japan’s Tsukimi Namiki in the battle of the Olympic medallist, while Kazakhstan’s World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan had a hard job against Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzaffarov at the men’s 55kg weight category.
