A 19-year-old Welsh boy, Alex Hegarty eliminated a European medallist in Mostoles

Wales’ Alex Hegarty eliminated one of the European medallists at the 2nd edition of the Enrique Rodriguez Cal Memorial Tournament in Mostoles, Spain on Day3.   

Spain’s Marta Lopez Del Arbol and her teammate Isabel Rivero will meet in the final of the women’s light flyweight (50kg). France’s Sthelyne Grosy and England’s Bocskai Memorial Tournament winner Olivia Holmes also won today and will be boxing for the title of the featherweight (57kg).

Rafael Lozano Serrano, the Olympics quarter-finalist, had a fantastic first round against his young teammate, Carlos Diazand he enjoyed the bout from the first seconds. Lozano knocked down his opponent in the first round but Diaz survived the most dangerous moments and he was able to fight against the Spanish No.1 until the last gong.

Scotland’s Aaron Cullen competed in Spain several times during his career and he won the tactical first round against England’s Kai Birch. The Scottish bantamweight (54kg) boxer had to do his very best in the last round and he will now meet France’s promising Christopher Hippocrate.

Spain’s Gabriel Escobar decided to continue his career after spending 10 years in the national team. The Spaniard moved up to the featherweight (57kg) and he adopted the strengths of the punches quickly to beat France’s Ryan Bieou therefore will face for the title with England’s Leo Wood who had a close success over Raul Escudero.  

Wales’ Alex Hegarty is a 19-year-old young talent at the lightweight (60kg) and he knew the best tactics against Montenegro’s European bronze medallist Tomislav Djinovic today. The Welsh boy kept his opponent on long successfully the teenager eliminated one of the favourites to meet Spain’s Victor Manuel Catalino in the final.

England’s Odel Kamara and his teammate, Rio Gordon eliminated their today’s rivals and they will meet in the final of the light middleweight (71kg). A neutral boxer, Adrian Ricardo Fresneda (92kg) and England’s Damar Thomas (+92kg) won the last contests of the session.
