Beatriz Ferreira wins her first world title in professional boxing

Double world champion in amateurs and Olympic silver medalist, Beatriz Ferreira (5-0), has won her first world title in professional boxing.

31-year-old from Brazil defeated Yanina del Carmen Lescano (14-4) of Argentina in the fight for IBF World lightweight title.  Fight was held in Liverpool on Saturday (April 27).

Fight was stopped in sixth round because of Lescanos injury in left eye from an accidental head clash. Ferreira was clear leading on points (59:55, 59:55, 58:55) after five rounds and was declared as IBF champion.

After winning the world title, Ferreira said she will try to win Olympic gold medal this year in Paris.

“I’m ready for whoever, I am going for that Olympic medal.”

In the main event in Liverpool, Peter McGrail (9-1) won via unanimous decision after 10-rounds over Marc Leach (18-4-1).
