David Benavidez defeats David Morrell in the fight for WBC Interim World light-heavyweight title
David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) won via unanimous decision against David Morrell (11-1, 9 KOs) in the fight for WBC Interim World light-heavyweight title.
Benavidez was dropped once in round eleven, but in the event he did more then enough to earn points victory. All three judges scored (118:108, 115:111 and 115:111) in favor of Benavidez. Morrell was deducted one point in round eleven for hitting after the bell.
“I’m excited to keep putting on great fights, filling arenas, calling out the best guys,” Benavidez said in his post-fight news conference. “I’ve evolved as a fighter. I’m becoming my own character.
“I’ll be the face of boxing soon, talking over the sport.”
Stephen Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) dethroned Brandon Figueroa (25-2-1, 19 KOs) in the co-main event. Fulton won via unanimous decision in the fight for WBC World featherweight title. Three judges scored the fight (117:111, 116:112 and 116:112).
Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz (27-3-1, 18 KOs) defeated Angel Fierro (23-3-2, 18 KOs) via unanimous decision after ten tough rounds.
