Legendary boxing matches – Legendary boxers: The lightest heavyweight world champion of all time

There are matches, which are never to be forgotten, and there are boxing icons, who are going to stay with us for eternity.

When people think about the heavyweight champions, they usually imagine the biggest, toughest guys in the king division. Well, we can find many examples of these kind of fighters, however the biggest boxers don’t always earn this title.

Robert Fitzsimmons was originally a blacksmith and when he started boxing, his debut weight was just about 67 kg. But the British athlete did not care too much about his weight and later with only 75.75 kg he won via KO against James J. Corbett, who was the reining heavyweight champion in 1897.

Fun fact: Bob was the first professional boxer in history who could win the heavyweight crown after he became a middleweight champion. After this achievement, the next fighter who could do the same was Roy Jones Jr. more than 100 years later…
