The 29th Algirdas Socikas Tournament will open with the participation of 13 countries in Kaunas today

The 29^th edition of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament starts in Lithuania’s second largest city in Kaunas today with the participation of strong boxers.

The Kaunas Sports Hall is the venue of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament where the unforgettable atmosphere will be guaranteed by the local fans.

Altogether 84 boxers will compete in the Algirdas Socikas Tournament in one female and ten male weight categories from today.

Algeria, Australia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, New Zealand, Poland, Scotland, Sweden and Turkey will compete in the upcoming edition.

The six-time Soviet National Champion Mr. Algirdas Socikas was one of the heroes of Lithuania’s boxing life in the past who won the European Boxing Championships two-times in 1953 in Warsaw and repeated it in 1955 in West Berlin.

Lithuania’s most important elite international boxing tournament was named after their national boxing icon who earned gold medals in several other events too.

The Opening Ceremony of the competition will start at 4pm today which will follows the first session in Kaunas.

The entrance for the visitors to the competition is free and the host, Mr. Karolis Tiskevicius and the singer Mr. Aleksandras Ivanauskas-Fara will also involve to the final day of the Socikas Tournament.

The Lithuanian delegation will consist 15 boxers in Kaunas and among them the European Championships bronze medallist Ana Starovoitova, the veteran Edgaras Skurdelis, the powerful Aleksandr Trofimciuk and the experienced super heavyweight pugilist, Jonas Jazevicius are the biggest names from the host team.
