The Philippines selected four strong boxers to Bangkok

The Philippines announced four boxers to compete at the upcoming 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from May 24.

The silver medallist from the last Games, Nesthy Petecio (women’s 57kg), and the bronze finisher star, Eumir Felix Marcial (men’80kg) have already qualified for their next Olympic Games. Aira Villegas, a women’s 50kg pugilist, used her technician style of boxing in Busto Arsizio and she achieved an additional third quota for the Philippines.

The lone female boxer in the squad will be Hergie Bacyadan who switched from other martial arts to boxing in 2019 and since then she proved her strong potential. The Boxam Tournament winner and the Asian Grand Slam gold medallist will represent the Philippines at the women’s middleweight (75kg) in the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Bangkok.

Rogen Ladon recovered from his injuries in time to compete in Busto Arsizio where he knocked out one of his opponents. The flyweight (51kg) boxer was silver medallist in the 2018 Asian Games and he has 11 years of international routine.

Carlo Paalam, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, moved up to the featherweight (57kg) in the recent one year and he has the potential to win a quota in Bangkok where the environment will be familiar for the 26-year-old star.

Criztian Pitt Laurente won a bronze medal at the 2018 edition of the Youth World Boxing Championships in Budapest but he turned professional shortly after that career highlight. The currently 24-year-old boxer returned to the national team with perfect professional pedigree and he is aiming for a quota in Bangkok. He will compete at the men’s light welterweight (63.5kg) in the 2nd Qualifier.

Some of their recent national members such as Ronald Chavez Jr,, John Marvin, Claudine Veloso and Riza Pasuit have to miss the last chance qualifier in Bangkok.
